That must have made things very sticky indeed when he was Jesuit Provinicial of the Order in Arg. I think you're right, he has probably learned valuable lessons from the experience of the Dirty War - when he was relatively quite young! No doubt, weaknesses and failures of his own which he's had forty years to reflect upon. The way ahead is going to be very interesting to watch.Richard Demmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17116799651068476195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8132410343235772418.post-27608021090716540212013-03-15T20:45:37.736-07:002013-03-15T20:45:37.736-07:00Interesting that Leonardo Boff got the Francis nam...Interesting that Leonardo Boff got the Francis name before the election as well.

I agree with his take completely. This is a pope who will set a very different path for a very compromised church. In my opinion the Dirty War was a teaching moment for him and one lesson he has had forty years to digest. He knows first hand how absolute power corrupts absolutely and how disempowering it is for others---and he also knows how a corrupt fascist leaning hierarchy was part and parcel of the rise of the Junta. One wonders what smoking guns he has in his own personal files.

Here's one other prediction. He will teach on the ultimate authority of conscience and that no vow can supercede one's conscience, perhaps and maybe most especially the 4th Jesuit vow which undoubtedly was responsible for some of his actions in the Dirty War.colkochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03432916690101599393noreply@blogger.com
