The Dalai Lama

The model of a true, spiritual, holy leader. What Papa Luciani would have become had Providence allowed him a 'normal' life span of twenty years or so as the collegial leader of the Catholic tradition. How radically things would have changed is beyond imagining (think not so much of birth control, homosexuality or women priests, but of Opus Dei and the Legionaries of Christ). To have been deprived of such balanced, saintly, wholesome leadership is a cause of almost unbearable heartache. To be fair, however, the Dalai Lama's views on homosexuality remain very traditional, though he maintains that he is trying to listen.
